Large-scale hydrological modeling, parameterization, flood and drought hindcast and forecast.
Luis Samaniego (M.S., PhD) is research scientist at the Helmholtz-Centre for Environmental Research-UFZ, Leipzig, Germany. He received the B.S. degree in civil engineering from the Escuela PolitĂ©cnica Nacional in Quito (1991), the M.S. degree (1997) and the Ph.D. degree (2003) from the University of Stuttgart, where he focused on watershed modeling and hydrological consequences of land cover change. Since 2013, Dr. Samaniego is the deputy-head of Department Computational Hydrosystems. Dr. Samaniego’s scientific focus in the last ten years has been the development and evaluation of a robust and efficiently distributed hydrologic model (mHM) having regionalized parameters to ease the transferability of model parameters to ungauged locations and across scales. He also focuses on modelling and forecasting of droughts and flood, parameter estimation, remote sensing, and uncertainty analysis. Since 2010, Dr. Samaniego is Associate Editor of Water Resources Research (AGU), J. of Hydrology, and HESS.
