" Henny A.J. van Lanen (Assoc. Prof. Hydrology & Quantitative Water Management Group) He has been involved in several EU projects (see below). He is coordinator of the European Drought Centre (EDC), member of the Open Panel of CHy Experts (OPACHE) of Commission of Hydrology (CHy) from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), member of the Discussion Group on Droughts of the UN-International Strategy on Disaster Reduction (UN-ISDR), Coordinator of the European FRIEND programme (EURO-FRIEND, cross-cutting theme UNESCO-IHP), Global Coordinator of the FRIEND Inter-Group Coordination Committee (FIGCC) (cross-cutting theme UNESCO-IHP). He was editor of the textbook “Hydrological Drought”. He wrote two XEROCHORE Science Policy Briefs (Characterization of Water Bodies, WFD-Art. 5, and Monitoring, WFD, Art. 8) and currently as project coordinator strongly involved in Science-Policy Interfacing at different scales (from river basin to pan-Europe). Dr. van Lanen has been: (i) a Principal Investigator of the EU FP4-ARIDE project (Assessment of drought impact in Europe ), (ii) Co-coordinator of the EU-FP5 ASTHyDA project (Analysis, Synthesis, of Knowledge Transfer and Tools on Droughts via an EU Network), (iii) , member of the Project Steering Group and Lead of the Work Block Hydrological Extremes of the EU-FP6 WATCH project (WATer and gloval Change), (iv) member of Coordination Team of the EU-FP7 project XEROCHORE (Gr. dry land), and (v) Coordinator of the ongoing EU-FP7 project DROUGHT-R&SPI (Fostering European Drought Research and Science-Policy Interfacing). 5 relevant publications/products/services: Tallaksen, L.M. & Van Lanen, H.A.J.
